Q: How can I be assured of confidentiality?
A: Although identifying information such as name, address, and social
security number are taken for reporting results, the DNA sample is labeled only with a unique number. Thus when the sample is in the laboratory, the scientists conducting the test have no way of knowing who is being tested. To assure confidentiality, no test results are given over the telephone. Results are given to the adults participating in the test.
